ANTIMICROBIAL FORMULA

GEM Plastics’ GEMGuard® HDPE sheet, is a proprietary formula consisting of a slow release action which has been tested for efficacy against mold, yeast and bacteria. In fact, the testing against MRSA and E-coli based on JIS Z 2801 resulted in an R value (the value of antimicrobial activity) much greater than the 2.0 benchmark for antimicrobial efficacy in both cases.

The GEMGuard® HDPE sheet can contribute to reducing odor formation that results from microorganisms. These microorganisms can break down organic materials and produce volatile, foul smelling products, such as amines, ammonia, hydrosulfide and aldehydes. It is particularly noticeable in waste bins. In the presence of nutrients, microorganisms rapidly multiply and, depending on conditions, algae, bacteria and fungi can be involved. Also, GEMGuard® helps in water-contact applications such as water tanks and scrubbers, where a so-called biofilm formation
takes place.

POST CONSUMER SHEET
GEM Plastics’ GreenGuard® HDPE recycled sheet helps to protect the environment because it is made from used milk containers, juice bottles, water bottles, cereal box liners, trash bags, butter tubs, shampoo bottles and yogurt containers. The code for these materials is a triangle made up of recycling arrows. Inside of the triangle is a 2 which signifies the HDPE content.
 

These recycled GreenGuard® sheets are then manufactured into flooring, gutters, outdoor furniture, bathroom partitions, plastic lockers and playground equipment.

GEM Plastics produces PrimeGuard® HDPE sheet which is an FDA approved food-grade recycled resin. This means that a whole host of FDA required products can now be made by using PrimeGuard® sheets.

GEM Plastics also produces GEMLite® and GEMExtraLite® HDPE for those applications where weight reduction and cost are important.
