Job Summary

Initiates and facilitates lean improvement and 5S programs and activities. Responsible for leadership and development of programs that educate teammates about lean concepts that lead to the identification, development, and implementation of improvements at GEM Plastics operations. Role focus includes supporting the operation in the production of a high quality product, increased throughput, improved labor efficiencies, driver of lean initiatives and champion continuous improvement while maintaining/improving safety performance. Collects, collates and prepares production data for review by management. Typical improvement activity results in improved safety, productivity, quality, and cost reductions.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

§ Support production operations to drive improvement in manufacturing efficiencies by utilizing continuous improvement techniques.
§ Directs and facilitates the ongoing lean improvement process through the use of techniques such as Kaizen, 5’S, TPM, Kanban, Policy Deployment, etc.
§ Provides lean improvement orientation and on-the-job training for teammates and ensures that the responsibilities are defined and understood, and oversees the lean projects.
§ Teach others to lead improvement efforts, including training on effective tools for successful project leadership.
§ Identify ongoing lean improvement training needs and assist with developing and implementing the required training.
§ Ensure that appropriate safety and ergonomic processes and methods are being utilized.
§ Identify needs relating to improvements in safety/ergonomics and assist in developing and implementing solutions to these issues.
§ Establish metrics to monitor financial savings as compared to established goals and targets.
§ Develop and maintain annual value stream mapping efforts, CI plans, and calendars.
§ Provide support to external customers in support of all the GEM Plastics operations value added initiatives.
§ Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
§ Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

§ Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.
§ Full working knowledge of Lean Concepts with demonstrated success
§ Proficient MS Office suite.
§ Strong organizational and project management skills required.
§ Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
§ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
§ Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
§ Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs;
§ Six Sigma experience preferred.
§ Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts.
§ Maintain transparent communication through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, email, and regular interpersonal communication.
§ Strong critical thinking/problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.
§ Intermediate mathematics skills required.
§ Ability to work independently, self-motivated, and results oriented
§ Meticulous attention to detail required.
§ Ability to work a fast-paced operational environment.
§ Willingness to work extended or flexible hours as required to meet production demands.
§ Displays passion and optimism; inspires respect and trust; mobilizes others to fulfill the vision; provides vision and inspiration to peers.
§ Proven ability to lead associates through coaching and mentoring.
§ Track record of successful project management and team experience.
§ Candidates should be highly energized and self-motivated with experience working with teams to

Physical Requirements:

This position requires a moderate degree of standing, walking, sitting, precision eye work, use of hands, reach with hands or arms and hearing, and vision are considered essential. Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing of stairs or balance required. Ability to differentiate color. A moderate to high degree of repetitive motions using right, left, or both hands may also be required. Occasional moving of product of up to 35 lbs. Requires wearing personal protective equipment. Normal office environment where noise level is moderate and temperature/humidity is controlled. Overtime may be required. Attendance to work required.
