JOB SUMMARY

Lead and direct activities of production and operators.  Support Business Unit Manager with overall shift performance related to safety, quality, productivity, cost, continuous improvement, and employee development.  Ensure that all equipment produces product to production schedule and meets production quality guidelines.  Help employees to achieve shift performance goals, provide coaching, training, and handles production and employee issues.  Provide a safe work place and follow all safety instructions.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead safety first culture by working safely, following all safety instructions, look out for the safety of others, train and coach employees working safely.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in product quality inspection, packaging material, and material handling activities
  • Ensure grinding operations are following schedule. Correct product is running on all grinders
  • Ensure min and max levels are correct for recycled product
  • Ensure material handlers are following colorant process
  • Assist with Safety, One Point Lesson and SOP training
  • Ensure shift performance to meet quality, productivity and cost targets
  • Lead and promote continuous improvement ideas and projects
  • Measure and examine plastic products in order to locate defects, and to check for conformance to specifications; notify Extrusion Technicians of out spec condition and help with getting the product back into specifications
  • If a product or process is out of compliance lead employees in identifying root cause and corrective actions
  • Ensure correct products and being produced to production plan and meeting all customer requirements
  • Monitor all plastic production lines for problems or defects in material and provide assistance and coaching
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports.
  • Work with Supervisor to coordinate operations and activities and between departments and other shifts.
  • Ensure all information are prepared and resources are in place at shift hand off and provide assist as required
  • Ensure operations are producing to the production schedule.
  • Identify and escalate issues for maintenance and write work order for necessary repairs
  • Train and coach employees on plastic production operations involving Plastic Operators
    • Plastic Operators
      • TPQC
      • Material Handlers
      • Grinder Operators
      • Pelletizer Operators
    • Lead and document cross training of employees to provide more value.
    • Take initiative to help out others and provide assistance.
    • Fill in for any positions as required due to absence, vacation, etc.
    • Ensure all paperwork is correct and accurate
    • Train Plastic Operators on how to fill out paperwork and Shift Production Board
    • Lead the employees in 5S projects and clean work areas
    • Lead Safety Audits during the shift and correct any findings
    • Any other duties as asked by Supervisor or Manager.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • A minimum of one-year experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Additional languages a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping, or kneeling, close eye work, reaching, pulling or pushing.  Good hand dexterity, hearing, and vision are considered essential.  A moderate to high degree of repetitive motions using right, left, or both hands and/or feet may also be required.  Requires the use of personal protective equipment.  Requires working indoors in a non-controlled environment.
