Job Summary

The Night Shift Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the manufacturing self-directed work teams to maximize productivity on assigned shifts and areas This includes planning, assigning and directing work, coordinating activities related to lean initiatives, 5S and continuous improvement, addressing product, customer and employee complaints, and resolving issues. The Night Shift Manager carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies, OSHA regulations and applicable laws while following all Standard Operating Procedures.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

§ Evaluates needs in production for daily assignment of duties; establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules
§ Lead safety initiatives to provide a safe working environment and address any production process safety concerns.
§ Manage, coach and develop a high performing manufacturing team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
§ Develop and implement equipment process controls and reaction plans.
§ Develop and implement product quality controls and reaction plans.
§ Drive lean initiatives to improve product quality, throughput, lower cost and improve uptime.
§ Promote compliance with standard operating procedures, policies and protocols.
§ Provides management of employees directly or through supervisors to ensure effective selection, retention, development, corrective action and performance management.
§ Develop process and initiate process changes to accommodate new products and new material launches.
§ Utilize metrics/KPIs to monitor performance, establish team goals and meet business objectives.
§ Maintain Kanban and FIFO.
§ Prepare and maintain production reports.
§ Work with Plant Management and other Supervisory Staff to assign, direct, review and monitor work to maximize productivity in the plant.
§ Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
§ Collaborates with supervisors and managers to coordinate activities of individual departments.
§ Recommends improvements to production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
§ Ensures proper procedures are in place and being followed for, production efficiency, quality of product, employee safety, state and federal guidelines.
§ Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments to correct problems.
§ Implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives
§ Oversees/champion training and cross training of all employees.
§ Ensure customer orders are completed on time and to budget and that quality standards and targets are met.
§ Instructs employees in regard to production and equipment standards and processes.
§ Oversees instruction, implementation and enforcement of policies as they relate to employees.
§ Engages in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating.
§ Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them.
§ Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

§ Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
§ 2 years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment required.
§ Functional knowledge of metal fabrication and equipment preferred. (900 & Global Partitions specific)
§ Functional knowledge of plastics extrusion preferred. (GEM specific)
§ Candidates should be highly energized and self-motivated with experience working with teams to implement change and foster positive team environment.
§ Proficient MS Office suite.
§ Strong organizational and project management skills required.
§ Proven conflict resolution skills to include: active listening, seeking understanding, team building skills, emotional intelligence and frequent effective communication.
§ Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
§ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
§ Ability to read and understand equipment operation manuals, Safety Data Sheets, and other literature as required.
§ Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
§ Ability lead and develop employees through coaching and mentoring on a one-on-one basis as well as in a group setting.
§ Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change
§ Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience preferred.
§ Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts and convey the knowledge to a team in both classroom and practical setting.
§ Maintain transparent communication through weekly department meetings, one-on-one meetings, email, and regular interpersonal communication.
§ Strong critical thinking/problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.
§ Intermediate mathematics skills required.

Language Skills:

§ Proficiency in spoken and written English.
§ Additional languages preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping or kneeling, precision eye work, reaching, pulling or pushing. Good hand dexterity, hearing, and vision are considered essential. Ability to differentiate color. A moderate to high degree of repetitive motions using right, left, or both hands and/or feet may also be required. Occasional moving of product of up to 50 lbs. Requires wearing personal protective equipment. Requires working indoors in environmentally non-controlled conditions.
