Job Summary

As a Purchasing Manager you will be responsible for sourcing equipment, goods and services and managing vendors. The successful candidate will be able to perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, search for better deals and find more profitable suppliers. Direct and coordinate the activities of the purchasing department. Meet all purchasing deadlines and maintain budget restrictions. Coordinate purchases between department supervisors and plant manager. Maintain inventory levels and scheduled audits.

Job Task

• Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the purchasing department.
• Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
• Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems as they relate to purchasing.
• Interview, evaluate, and coach and counsel with employees.
• Initiate and coordinate inventory and cost control programs.
• Prepare and maintain purchasing reports.
• Set and monitor product standards, examining samples of raw products or delivered goods.
• Enforce safety and sanitation regulations.
• Monitor and approve employee time.
• Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies
• Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
• Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
• Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation
• Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
• Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking
• Assess, manage and mitigate risks
• Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
• Determine quantity and timing of deliveries
• Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand
• Any other duties as asked by plant manager.

Work Experience and Technical Requirements

  • • Proven working experience as purchasing manager
    • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
    • Interest in market dynamics along with business sense
    • A knack for negotiation and networking
    • Working experience of vendor management software
    • Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures
    • Solid judgement along with decision making skills
    • Strong leadership capabilities
    • Two year associates or BS degree in business or related field of study
    • Prefer two years of supervisory/management experience
